Chest & Back, Ab Ripper X

Oh my God...   what did I do to deserve this? My upper arms feel like they are about to fall off and my abs (what there is of them) are tense and sore. It's all my own fault of course, if I'd taken care of myself I wouldn't be feeling like this.

Last night I started P90X phase 1 with Chest & Back. This is basically an hour of pull-ups and push-ups in different variations. I think I managed just over half of what they did in the DVD, these people are fit beyond belief. They do say in the DVD though that as you're just starting out not to push it too far. Regardless I feel like I've just been in a fight with Mike Tyson.

After Chest & Back I did Ab Ripper X which is roughly 16 minutes of core (ab) exercise. Again I did everything they did in the DVD but not as many reps although I did try. I honestly don't know if I'll ever be able to do all the reps that they do in the DVD. These people are machines.

Unlike other exercise programs I've witnessed, but never taken part in tbh, there was quite a bit of chat in the P90X DVD. Tony Horton really has a way to get you motivated and try to do better.

Btw, if you're interested, because I'm in the UK I can't buy the P90X supplements to go with the course so I'm buying my stuff from myprotein.com. Here's a list of stuff I've bought to help me out:

One Isotonic Drink for before and during workouts.
MyBar - these are protein bar replacements. I'm loving the Oats & Whey Raspberry
Recovery XS in place of the P90X recovery drink. This is for after workouts and helps your muscles recover faster.
Beef Jerky - You have no idea how hard it is to get jerky in Scotland. I still haven't found anywhere to buy turkey jerky - if anyone knows of a place please let me know!
MP Daily Vitamins - pretty self explanatory

Tonight is Plyometrics. I'm not 100% sure on what this is but it's a form of "jump training". Should be interesting. Oh and I'll post some before shots later as I forgot to bring my camera into work.

P90X

Well, here's one of the reasons I've started this blog - P90X. Some of you may have heard of this, some not but basically it's an extreme home fitness workout program from BeachBody.com.  I was recently in the Dominican Republic and saw this advertised on an American TV infomercial. We don't really get infomercial's on British TV but I know all about them and usually they don't phase me but this one really spoke to me.

In the past few years I've put on a few pounds and I've found it hard to get motivated to shift them. Well I'm hoping that P90X will provide that motivation so my wife will stop poking fun at my beer belly.

I'm now 30 years old, 5'11" and 14 stone 7. That's 203 pounds to you 'Merkins. This is unacceptable. My 21 year old self would kick my arse for getting this out of shape.

Anyway, I'm planning to start P90X tonight and report on this blog daily, weekly or whenever on how I get on and my methods. Wish me luck!
